Tonno Opening To The Public Friday June 17th
AJ’s Closing Words From Erica Duda
First off, thank you for your patronage. Our family greatly appreciates your kind words about the food and atmosphere. We are truly sorry we couldn’t make the ship float.
Secondly, the reasoning. Most restaurants (I think the statistic is about 85%) fail. Running a restaurant is hard, getting people to work is even harder. People don’t come to work, people don’t show up for interviews, some people are overpaid but you need them…it’s just hard to find the right people. We decided as a family that it was the right thing to close. We are sorry to disappoint anyone, but it was our choice.
So please, be kind and courteous. Don’t spread rumors. Please respect our decision. Thank you

I have three pieces in the front room. My man James Eves from Cape Ann Giclee made up three large format canvas wraps as statement pieces. The huge calico lobster stares you down with its big crusher and pincer claws when you walk into the room. Anthony and James hung them yesterday.-

Tonno Hosts Pre-Opening Fundraiser for Gloucester Police Chief’s “Police Assisted Addiction Recovery Initiative”
Chef/owner Anthony Caturano gives community supporters a sneak peek into his new restaurant before opening to the public
WHAT: On June 16, Anthony Caturano (Prezza) will open the doors to his new Gloucester restaurant, Tonno, a day early to host a dinner fundraiser for the Police Assisted Addiction Recovery Initiative (PAARI). Established in 2016 by Gloucester Police Chief Leonard Campanello, PAARI is a revolutionary new way to fight the war on drugs by doing something about the demand, not just the supply. Under his plan, drug addicts who ask the police department for help will be immediately taken to a hospital and placed in a recovery program without the risk of arrest or incarceration. In addition to supporting the Gloucester Police addiction initiatives, the nonprofit organization also aids other police departments to implement similar programs, and to foster a dialogue around the unique opportunity for police departments to take direct action against the disease of drug addiction in their communities.
At this pre-opening community event hosted by Chief Campanello and Chef Caturano, PAARI supporters will be the first to experience Tonno before it opens to the public on June 17. The evening will be a traditional dinner service where guests will select their courses from the full Tonno menu with a variety of beer, wine and cocktail pairings. As a way of celebrating and giving back to the community, 100% of the $100 per person charge will be donated directly to the PAARI organization.

ABOUT TONNO:
In 2000, Anthony Caturano opened up his first restaurant, Prezza, in Boston’s historic North End which has earned top ratings and delighted diners for more than 15 years. Now the famed chef and restaurateur is bringing his Old World style of cooking to Gloucester with Tonno, opening its doors on June 17. Tonno, Italian for “tuna,” blends together chef Caturano’s favorite culinary styles, featuring coastal Italian seafood and other treasures from land and sea. Having just undergone a full renovation, the 4,000 square foot venue is outfitted with a dining room, a lounge complete with a fireplace, a cocktail bar, and a private events room. Seating 99 people, Tonno has partial ocean views and is open year-round. The culinary program is designed to showcase Italian seafood classics, with nightly specials that reflect the catches of the day from the local waters. The menu is comprised of an array of sfizi and primi options to start, homemade pastas that are available in half and full portions, secondi courses presenting pesce and carne signature dishes, and decadent desserts. The beverage program is curated to highlight classic Italian cocktails, a selection of craft beers, and a list of more than 100 wines that mainly is focused on Italian varietals. Tonno is located at 2 Maine Street in Gloucester. For more information, please call (978) 879-4795 or visit www.tonnorestaurant.com. Follow Tonno on Facebook and Pinterest
