Taste From A Growing Portfolio Of Specialty, Honest Wines From Hogshead

Leitz Riesling, Rheingau, Germany
Varietals:
 Riesling, Alc. 12%
The Rheingau is a small region between the cities of Mainz and Rüdesheim. The Rheingau was once the home to some of the world’s most sought-after wines, but after World War II the quality fell dramatically. Johannes Leitz took over his family vineyard in 1985 and has work ever since to bring his native terroir back to its former glory. He is focused on farming as sustainably as possible and working by hand. This Riesling pungent with lemony fruit. It is off-dry with a satiny mouthfeel, crisp acidity on the palate with flavors of peach, lemon, and minerals, and a clean finish.

Pairs well: with spicy food, shellfish, poultry, and pork.$14.99

Dandelion Vineyards, Wishing Clock of Adelaide Hills, Sauvignon Blanc, Australia
Varietal:
 Sauvignon Blanc, Alc.11.5%
Winemaker Elena Brooks grew up in Bulgaria, where her mother worked at a winery. Elena began her career translating for English speaking visitors to the winery. By the age of 16 she had made her first batch of chardonnay. After years of traveling and working in wine regions around the world, she settled with her husband and two children in McLaren Vale, Australia, where she is making some great wines. Her Wishing Clock sauvignon blanc is light, almost clear, in the glass, with aromas of lemon, citrus, guava, and herbs in the nose. On the palate notes of exotic fruit mingle with herbs; the mouthfeel is soft, but the finish is very dry.

Pairs well: with Asian rice paper rolls, spicy fish soup, and seafood.$19.99

They planted higher-quality varietals indigenous and local varieties, and also some international grapes, such as Syrah and cabernet.
