We had a great dinner at the Hale St. Tavern last weekend. It was very busy with college hockey fans and parents. Several families were having dinner as well so it’s family friendly. Danielle from Gloucester was our server (wonderful job). My burger was excellent and Jim enjoyed his fish sandwich. The Tavern will be closing as of Feb 3 for renovations that are expected to take 2weeks. I am looking forward to a return trip, perhaps with friends.

what: A wine tasting seminar of Tuscany, Italy led by Ciro Pirone presenting its renowned wines & foods, singular geographic areas, spirited culture and traditions focused on the major, celebrated Sangiovese grape of Tuscany, the centerpiece of the region’s great wines …Chianti Classico, Montalcino, Montepulciano while demystifying the Super Tuscans wines, so loved but still so misunderstood.
-Ciro’s seminar will include take-home materials to continue the learning experience with maps/facts, information about Tuscany… related specifically to the wines and areas covered in the seminar
-9 wines (Chianti Classico, Montalcino, Montepulciano Super Tuscans) will be tasted designed to gain an understanding of the variety of different Sangiovese grapes from the regions’s different terroir including a flight of very distinctive SuperTuscans (Merlot, Cabernet, and Sangiovese based).
-Accompanying the tasting will be Savour’s specialty appetizers… cheeses, charcuterie and condiments
why: It’s the opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of Tuscany’s cultural heritage, through its wine. The occasion to be on your way to becoming a Tuscany expert, and a more educated wine buyer of Tuscan wines as well as wines in general.

If, by chance, you aren’t feeling the holiday spirit yet, take a trip to the beautiful Beauport Hotel to see their glorious holiday decorations. It is impossible to not feel joy upon walking up the staircase and into the lobby. Sit by the fireplace for a bit, look out to the harbor, and enjoy one of their yummy holiday cocktails. I had something with fig infused vodka the other day and if was delicious! If it isn’t too chilly, snuggle up on the deck by the fireplace with a blanket and forget about your holiday to-dos for a bit. Don’t forget, before you leave, to stroll into the gift shop for some holiday shopping.

Last Sunday we decided to go to Tonno and try out the Sunday dinner special featuring an appetizer and an entree for a fixed price. GMG Jimmy had the eggplant appetizer and I had the shrimp bruschetta. They were each amazing and nearly a meal to themselves.

I chose chicken parmigiana and Jim ordered spaghetti with meatballs and sausage. We were not disappointed. Lovely evening out! Thanks Tonno for bringing back some of Jim’s childhood memories in an Italian household.

I got my annual Serenitee email which added a free entree AND dessert to my card in celebration of my October birthday; which coincided perfectly with my plan to have dinner at Minglewood over the weekend. Our server Jamie expertly delivered our drinks, appetizer, meals and dessert. It was a delightful experience, made even better by a nearly 40% reduction in our final bill! A wonderful date night for us. It’s a no brained….get your own Serenitee card today!
