What makes an Heirloom Tomato an heirloom? 🍅 These tomatoes seeds are passed down from season to season, (sometimes even generation to generation) taken from the tomato plants that produced the best fruit. This process allows farmers to select certain desirable traits like juiciness, size, shape, or color and produce the #UltimateTomato. 💪🏼

Heirloom tomatoes are also often open-pollinated, which means that they are pollinated naturally, by birds, 🐦 insects, 🐝 wind, 💨 or human hands.🤠👋🏼 No weird science-y genetic modification here!

We’ve decided to switch things up at Seaport Grille this summer with a little bit of help from our neighbors at the famous Virgilio’s Bakery!

Beginning in 1961, three generations of Virgilio family members have owned and operated their bakery located here in Gloucester. Their speciality baked breads and rolls are made fresh daily and delivered to restaurants and supermarkets throughout Cape Ann. According to Virgilio’s, “the bread makes the sandwich,” and at here Seaport Grille we couldn’t agree more.

Some of our favorite menu items that have benefited from the fluffy yet crisp and perfectly toasted Virgilio bun include our Gloucester Haddock Sandwich, our Sully’s Bacon Cheeseburger and our popular and delicious Lobster BLT.
